Echocardiography

CardioPrima cardioprima.md

Echocardiography is a non-invasive imaging method that uses ultrasound to visualize the structure and function of the heart. It is one of the most important cardiological investigations, as it provides detailed, real-time information about how the heart pumps blood and the condition of the heart valves.

At CardioPrima, echocardiography is performed for both adults and children, tailored to the specific characteristics of each age group.

When echocardiography is recommended

  • to assess the heart’s pumping function (ejection fraction),
  • in congenital or acquired heart diseases,
  • in patients with arterial hypertension or coronary artery disease,
  • for the diagnosis and monitoring of valvular heart diseases (stenosis, regurgitation),
  • in cases of heart failure, pericarditis, or cardiomyopathies,
  • in children with heart murmurs or suspected congenital heart defects.

How the investigation is performed

  • The patient lies on the left side in a relaxed position.
  • Gel is applied to the chest, and the physician moves the ultrasound probe to visualize the heart from different angles.
  • The examination usually lasts 20–30 minutes and is completely painless.

Benefits for the patient

Echocardiography is a safe, accurate, radiation-free method that helps to:

  • detect heart diseases at an early stage,
  • monitor disease progression and treatment effectiveness,
  • establish an individualized treatment plan.

Performing this investigation during childhood, when indicated, allows early identification and correction of conditions that may affect long-term health.
