Abdominal Ultrasound (Internal Organs Ultrasound)

Abdominal ultrasound is a non-invasive imaging method that uses ultrasound waves to visualize the liver, gallbladder, pancreas, spleen, kidneys, urinary bladder and, when necessary, pelvic organs. It is a safe, radiation-free investigation; however, minimal preparation is required for accurate results.

Recommendations before the examination

  • Fasting for 6–8 hours prior to the examination is required. Small amounts of still water are allowed.
  • Avoid gas-producing foods (beans, cabbage, carbonated drinks, excessive raw fruits) for 24 hours before the examination to improve image quality.
  • Continue regular medication as prescribed by your physician, with a small amount of water.
  • For urinary bladder and pelvic ultrasound, arrive with a full bladder: drink approximately 0.5–1 liter of water one hour before the examination and do not urinate beforehand.
  • Wear comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the abdominal area.

What happens during the examination

  • You will lie on the examination table in a supine position.
  • The physician applies ultrasound gel and moves the transducer over the abdomen and pelvis.
  • Organ images are displayed in real time on the monitor.

The examination usually lasts 15–30 minutes, is painless and completely safe.

Renal Artery Doppler Ultrasound

Renal artery Doppler ultrasound is a specialized ultrasound examination that evaluates the blood vessels supplying the kidneys and assesses blood flow within them. It is an important diagnostic tool for secondary arterial hypertension and renal vascular diseases.

Recommendations before the examination

  • Fasting for 6–8 hours prior to the examination is required. Small amounts of still water are allowed.
  • Avoid foods that increase intestinal gas (beans, cabbage, milk, carbonated beverages, excessive raw fruits) for 24 hours before the test.
  • If you experience frequent bloating, your physician may recommend medication to reduce intestinal gas the day before the examination.
  • Continue daily medication as prescribed by your treating physician, with a small amount of water.
  • Wear comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the abdominal area.

What happens during the examination

  • You will lie on the examination table.
  • The physician applies gel to the abdomen and examines the kidneys and renal arteries using an ultrasound transducer.
  • You may be asked to take deep breaths or change position to improve visualization.

The examination typically lasts 20–30 minutes, is painless and carries no risk.
